The title is the name of one of the chapters of WH&EE in which we explore the sources of the perceptions of the Axial Age in the nineteenth century. Axial Ages and Eonic Observers The eonic model defines a type of 'observer' to go with it, an eonic observer: The point here is that we are immersed in the pattern we are trying to describe, and this limits the objectivity of our analysis. This becomes a question of ideology and as we interpret the eonic effect we also carry out its productions, i.e. so-called action scripts. This becomes important in the consideration of 'freedom emergence' since the narratives of freedom are both processes of historical dynamics and ideological constructs of the pattern of the eonic effect. |
