Someone asked how
I got from the Mandelbrot set to the cover of
the book. Using Winfract, one of the nicest programs you can find on the
Internet. As the diagrams show, start with the top level then use the zoom box
(with the mouse) and zoom in on Sea Horse Valley (Second Picture). Zoom in some
more on the curly Sea Horses. Then use the clipboard option to paste into
Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, and use the Hues buttons. Note how the Sea Horse
turns into spirals.
Winfract is
a fun program you can download from the Internet. (Try Google, it is the Windows
version of Fractint, made for the old Dos). Winfract uses a lot of old assembler
routines from Windows 95 for speed, but it worked fine on my Windows XP, which
doesn't allow that, but it will open a virtual window to run the program.
