   The Third Edition--An Overview

Chapter Menu and start of the overview

    Chapters

In the confusion over evolutionary theories a new empirical approach is needed. The study of world history shows us unique evidence of evolution in action and provides the clue to the descent of man. The speculative claims for natural selection, especially if these are applied to the history of civilization, in the process generating Social Darwinist ideologies, are shown to be misguided applications of positivistic scientism. The study of the eonic effect, a remarkable non-random pattern in the emergence of civilization, shows us the overlap of history and evolution and in the process demonstrates the way nature 'climbs Mt. Improbable'.

The third edition of World History And The Eonic Effect is an exciting upgrade of the presentation of universal history from the earlier editions and provides a comprehensive model of the dynamics of what we can call 'macrohistory'. After examining Darwinism in the Introduction, the text proceeds to outline the eonic effect. Then there are two master outlines of world history, in chapters three, five and six, with an in depth exploration of historical theory in chapter four. In the conclusion questions of theory and ideology are examined and the text concludes with indications of how to use the eonic model as a theoretical self-defense tool in the controversies and ideologies of evolution.
